For reference, typical coating on film is described here.
Dissolving |
Blend solvent at room temperature. Slowly add PVDC resin while mixing. If temperature is to be raised, complete addition of PVDC resin at room temperature first and raise temperature afterward. Any additives to be used should only be added after dissolution of resin is complete. |
Drying |
To prevent skinning, it is generally recommendable to set the temperature a little lower in the front part of the dryer and a little higher in the back part of the dryer. Adjust drying time to ensure minimal residual solvent. |
Wind-up |
Caution is required with respect to the wind-up tension and resulting inter-layer pressure in the wound roll. Excessive pressure may cause blocking. |
Additives |
Adhesives are added to the PVDC resin solution to improve adhesion to the substrate film. In our experience, excellent results have been obtained with polyisocyanates. Inorganic or organic slip agents may be added as anti-blocking agent. |
Aging |
Heat treatment after coating will improve barrier performance. This is generally referred to as aging. It is recommended that aging always be performed to obtain the best barrier performance. |
